Today I want to share with you some of the biggest social media myths out there in the online world and blow them out of the water - so you know the TRUTH!
Ok, let's get real for a second. Social media is NOT hard. Or complicated. Or too techy for you.
It’s as simple as you want to make it. After all, all you’re doing is writing a few sentences, posting a photo or graphic, or talking to a camera whilst sitting at your desk.
So why does everyone get so confused?
The truth is, it’s not really about confusion, it’s about planning, consistency and sharing from your heart. The only way you’ll get confused about anything is if you listen to a ton of different Coaches or Mentors who are telling you different things - which means you never know which 'strategy' to follow!

In the book, Napoleon Hill tells you to pay attention to this specific book, to pay attention to his words only, and not read or listen to any other people teaching the same topic.
He does this, because you have to immerse yourself in one particular strategy or topic to fully know and understand how it works. Taking bits and pieces from different blog posts, videos, courses or programs will simply confuse you!
So, as I said, Social Media isn’t hard, it’s actually pretty simple and can be broken down into 3 points:
A whopping 42% of the population (that’s 3.2 BILLION) use social media every day!
I promise you that your ideal clients are on there too! My 101 year Grandad was on Facebook, my kids are on TikTok, Instagram & Snapchat. Pretty much everyone uses YouTube when they want to know how to make something, or Pinterest for ideas and inspiration.
You just need to be active and visible on the platforms that your ideal clients use.
Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action. The Content Marketing Institute
Social media is just one of the ways you can get your content out into the world and in front of your ideal clients.
Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Twitter are incredible platforms and can be used to reach your audience. It’s fast, easy and can be used for free!
In this post from Convince & Convert, they use the quote:
Content is fire. Social media is gasoline.
Just let that really sink in for a minute!
Ask yourself why you think this...?
Is it because you think you’ll miss out on some clients who are on Twitter when you’re not? Or Instagram when you prefer using Facebook?
Or is it because that's what you've been told in the past?
The answer is probably yes to at least one, if not both, right?
Well, you’re right, you MIGHT miss those people who prefer Twitter over Instagram...
But it's much more likely that they’ll be on multiple platforms anyway so you can connect with them on the platform you like to use instead!
But what if these people are ONLY on Instagram and don’t have a Facebook account for example?
Well, other than that being super unlikely, think about how many clients or customers you actually NEED?
If I gave you 200,000 people right now who wanted to buy your products or services, could you actually manage that amount of people?
If you’re a Coach, Mentor, Freelancer or anyone who uses a ‘time for money’ business model, the answer is a very obvious NO!
This social media myth really bugs me!
Let’s say you’re super organised and can be on multiple social media platforms. You DON’T have to create completely new and different content for each platform!
I often explain it like this:
Go on your Facebook news feed and spend 2 minutes scrolling through the feed.
Now go to your LinkedIn / Twitter / Instagram account and do the same.
Did you see the same content on both platforms? I bet you didn’t!
You see, each platform has their own algorithm and shows content based on it’s own particular coding as well as bases what it shows you according to how you use the platform.
While it’s true that growing your online communities are really important, it doesn’t mean that you can’t make money from social media with a smaller following too.
Remember, it’s about providing VALUE and keeping to those 3 steps I mentioned earlier. Do this and I guarantee you will get consistent leads and sales online.
Although this myth is at #7, it’s probably one of the biggest ones out there.
If someone tells you to create a Facebook account, start posting and you’ll start making sales in days or weeks - don't believe them.
Social Media is about community, trust & relationships - ie. being SOCIAL!
Building your social media presence takes time.
It takes time for people to notice you. It takes time for you to grow your audience, nurture them and build your Like, Know & Trust.
Trust doesn’t come easily to most people - especially when they are thinking about spending their hard earned cash.
You have to always show up, whether you feel like it or not!
The more your audience see and hear from you, the more they get to know you and the deeper their trust will grow with you.
Do what you say you’re going to do. Show up on time every time. Provide what you said you would provide.
